Transforming Creativity Into 3D Magic Thru Die Cut Design Course
Here are some fabulous die cut design course projects from our C305 and C507 Die Cut and 3D Design Technology Course at the University of Arts & Design (UAD). We’re currently in our third semester of running this course, and it’s quickly become one of our student favorites.
From shadow boxes to layered cards and intricate 3D houses, students are creating designs that jump off the screen—and into the real world.
What Makes This Die Cut Design Course So Unique
This course is all about transforming digital ideas into tangible creations. Students use die-cutting software and machines like the Cricut, Silhouette, or laser cutters to craft products that are both beautiful and market-ready
Each week introduces a new creative challenge—from designing SVG quote files to constructing 3D boxes, paper flowers, and sticker sheets. Students finish the semester with a professional portfolio of sellable products ready for the online marketplace.

Tools You’ll Learn
Students work with professional tools used by today’s top designers:
- Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop for design and cutting-file prep
- Cricut, Silhouette, or Glowforge machines for hands-on execution
- Optional Procreate or traditional media for adding hand-drawn artistry
This hands-on workflow builds real-world skills—perfect for designers wanting to open Etsy shops, sell SVGs, or create professional design portfolios.

What Students Create
Every project in this die cut design course builds confidence and craft:
- Layered quote cards that teach typography and depth
- Shadow box cards with stunning 3D perspective
- Planner and sticker sheets ready for digital or physical sale
- 3D houses and boxes that showcase architecture in paper form
- Digital mockups and photos for professional portfolio presentation
“By the end of the course, students have an entire suite of 3D and die cut products they can sell or showcase professionally,” says Carina Gardner, Ph.D., course instructor.

Collaboration and Mentorship
Instead of traditional lectures, students participate in Open Class Meetings—Zoom sessions where they can ask questions, get personalized feedback, and collaborate with peers
This community-driven structure makes it easy for working professionals and creative entrepreneurs to learn at their own pace while still receiving expert guidance.

Build Market-Ready Design Skills
The Die Cut and 3D Design Technology Course embodies UAD’s mission to blend art, design, and business education. Students leave with:
- A complete product portfolio for online markets
- Technical mastery of die-cutting software and hardware
- A deep understanding of current creative market trends
Whether you dream of running a creative shop or designing for clients, this course gives you the skills to make your work stand out—literally.
